Indianapolis - Indiana House Republicans are proposing that active duty soldiers and more Indiana veterans receive new tax relief and other benefits.
Republican leaders want to exempt all military income of actively deployed Indiana reservists and National Guard personnel from state income tax.
They also want to increase from $2,000 to $5,000 the amount of military pay that active-duty military personnel from Indiana are allowed to exempt from their state income tax.
About a dozen GOP House members outlined the proposal at the USS Indianapolis memorial near the Statehouse today. Other Republicans were also outlining the proposal at other locations around the state.
Meantime, House Democratic Leader Patrick Bauer issued a statement. Bauer says assisting our veterans should be a non-partisan issue and House Democrats have consistently supported legislation that will help Hoosier veterans. He also says Democrats will continue to support those efforts in the future.
