39 Foreign Workers Detained In Joint Seria Operation
By Liza Mohd

Seria - Thirty-nine foreign workers were brought into the Seria police station yesterday morning after a joint operation called "Operation Lepak", carried out by the Belait District Police, Immigration Enforcement Section and Labour Department.

It targeted foreign workers who happened to be in Seria Town and its surrounding areas, including the Seria Plaza, bus terminals and department stores.

It also aimed to prevent crime-related activities and ensure that foreign workers have valid documents to stay or work in the Sultanate.

Among those brought in for further questioning, 13 comprised Filipino and Indonesian workers who were detained after failing to produce valid documents and for suspicion of breaching the immigration rules and conditions.

Meanwhile, the Immigration Department had issued special passes to five foreign workers of Indonesian, Filipino and Thai nationalities.

The operation, led by Acting OCPD Belait DSP Yakub Ismail, had involved 54 personnel from the three government agencies. It was carried out for more than two hours from 10.40am. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
